PM Modi to Inaugurate Underground Metro in Mumbai on September 30

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Mumbai on September 30 to inaugurate the much-awaited underground metro stretch from Worli to Cuffe Parade, marking a major milestone in the city’s transport infrastructure.

The 33.5 km metro line will have 27 stations, of which 26 are underground. The first phase, running from SEEPZ MIDC to Acharya Atre Station, is already operational. Modi will now dedicate the second phase—an 11 km section from Cuffe Parade to Worli—to the public. Metro officials said that with 22.5 km from Aarey to Worli already functional, the full corridor will soon be available for commuters.

Faster travel across the city

Once operational, the new metro line will cut travel time between Colaba and Aarey Colony to under an hour, compared to the current 2–3 hours by road. Authorities say this will provide a faster and more comfortable option for daily commuters.

CM Fadnavis on Mumbai’s development

Commenting on the project, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the underground metro is Asia’s largest project and will transform the city’s connectivity. He also highlighted the state government’s efforts in redevelopment projects, including BDD chawls and Girgaon rehabilitation, and stressed that Maharashtra is emerging as the startup and data center capital of India.
