So far, 22 installments have been released under the PM Kisan Scheme. The last installment was deposited into farmers' bank accounts on March 13, 2026. The 23rd installment is expected to be released in July 2026. However, before that, farmers need to complete some important tasks.
India is an agricultural country. Nearly 50 percent of the country's population depends on agriculture for their livelihood. Most of these are small and marginal farmers. To strengthen the economic condition of the farmers the central goverment is implementing the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi) scheme.Under this scheme, eligible farmers will receive financial assistance of ₹6,000 per year.
So far, 22 installments have been released under this scheme. The last installment was deposited into farmers' bank accounts on March 13, 2026. The 23rd installment is expected to be released in July 2026. However, before that, farmers will need to complete some important tasks.
The central government recently mandated a "Farmer ID" to bring transparency to the scheme. Farmers must register this ID by May 15, 2026. Otherwise, the next installment of PM Kisan will not be credited to their account. According to the government, some individuals have been found who are not taking advantage of the scheme. Therefore, the digital identification system is being implemented to ensure that only genuine farmers receive assistance.
Farmer ID is also called Digital Farmer Identity Card. It is a unique 12-digit number that functions like an Aadhaar card. However, it contains details about the farmer's land, farming, and crops. This ID can be used to avail benefits of PM Kisan, as well as schemes like fertilizer subsidy, seed subsidy, and crop insurance (PMFBY). Farmers can obtain this ID from the pmkisan.gov.in portal, the Agri Stock Portal, or their nearest CSC center.
How to register?
Visit the official PM-Kisan website and click on the "New Farmer Registration" option. Then, enter your details, such as your Aadhaar number, state, and mobile number. After uploading the required documents, submit your application. Approval will be granted after verification by state-level officials. You can join the scheme immediately after completing e-KYC.
New farmers can also apply:
Farmers who haven't yet joined this scheme can also register for a new one. There are options to apply online or offline. To benefit from this scheme, applicants must be Indian citizens and have records of agricultural land in their name. Furthermore, their Aadhaar card must be linked to their bank account. Only then will the funds be deposited directly into their account.
Who will not get the benefit?
Government employees, farmers who pay income tax, those who receive a pension of Rs 10,000 or more per month, and owners of institutional land are not eligible for this scheme.
Warning for farmers:
If there are errors in documents, inaccuracies in Aadhaar details, or issues with the bank account, the next installment may be delayed. Therefore, farmers are advised to verify their Farmer ID, e-KYC, and bank details immediately.
