Passwords will be gone! Phones can be unlocked by heartbeat and breath; scientists have discovered a new technology

Technology has advanced a lot these days. Technology is being used in every field. We also use various things in our daily lives that are based on technology. For example, we use smartphones in our daily lives. From waking up in the morning to going to sleep at night, we have a smartphone in our hands. From messaging someone to shopping online, we can easily complete many of our tasks through smartphones. Today, smartphones have progressed a lot compared to before. Smartphones have become advanced. Scientists are constantly trying to make these smartphones even more advanced.

You no longer need to remember passwords, PINs, or biometric locks for your smartphone or other devices. Scientists have developed a new login technology that can lock or unlock your device based on your heartbeat and breathing patterns. This technology has been named 'Vital ID.'

How does this technology work?
This technology uses micro-vibrations generated by human breathing and heartbeat. These vibrations reach the brain through the neck. Each person's bone structure and tissue are different, so the pattern of these vibrations is also different. This is why this technology is considered very safe. Importantly, it doesn't require any new hardware in the phone. This software can work with the motion sensors present in current premium phones. This technology was presented at the 2025 ACM Conference on Computer and Communications Security. In the future, it will completely change the way we log in to various apps, websites, and payment systems.

Key findings of the research
Researchers from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Temple University, and Texas A&M University made this discovery. The XR headset was used on 52 participants in a 10-month test. In this, the system identified the correct user more than 95 percent of the time. In more than 98 percent of cases, unauthorized users were denied access. The researchers developed a filtering system that focuses only on heartbeat and breathing, eliminating interference caused by head movement or changing position.
