The much-awaited Mirzapur: The Movie is all set to bring the popular crime franchise to the big screen. While familiar faces such as Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Shweta Tripathi and Shriya Pilgaonkar will reprise their connection with the franchise, the film is also introducing several new actors to the Mirzapur universe.
Produced by Excel Entertainment, the movie is scheduled to hit theatres on September 4. With the franchise's established stars returning alongside five new additions, expectations are already high among fans.
The trailer, which was released on August 11, has further increased the excitement. One of the biggest surprises is the arrival of popular Bhojpuri actor Ravi Kishan, who appears ready to enter the battle for the coveted throne of Mirzapur.
Ravi Kishan enters the race for the throne
Ravi Kishan is one of the most talked-about new additions to the franchise. His character appears to have ambitions of his own, and the trailer suggests that he will become an important player in the power struggle.
His entry could make the already complicated fight for control of Mirzapur even more intense. Fans will now get to see how his character fits into the existing world of Kaleen Bhaiya, Guddu Pandit and the other familiar players.
Jitendra Kumar gets an action-packed role
Another major newcomer is Jitendra Kumar, best known for his performances in Panchayat and other popular projects.
For Mirzapur: The Movie, Jitendra Kumar steps into the role of Bablu Pandit, a character previously associated with Vikrant Massey in the series. His appearance also promises to show the actor in a considerably different avatar, with action playing an important part in his role.
It will be interesting to see whether audiences accept Jitendra Kumar in the intense and violent world of Mirzapur.
Sonal Chauhan also joins the cast
Actress Sonal Chauhan, known for films such as Jannat, is another new face in the franchise.
She will reportedly play Mumtaz Bibi. While details about her character remain limited, her inclusion adds another interesting dimension to the film's already large ensemble.
Sushant Singh returns in a new world
Actor and television host Sushant Singh, who has been associated with shows such as Savdhaan India, is also making his debut in the Mirzapur franchise.
He will reportedly portray Bhairav Singh Karnawat. Given the actor's experience with intense and serious roles, his character could potentially become another important figure in the film's power game.
Mohit Malik completes the list of newcomers
TV actor Mohit Malik is the fifth major new addition to the franchise. He will reportedly play Birju Lohar.
With five actors entering the Mirzapur universe for the first time, the movie appears to be expanding the franchise beyond the characters audiences already know.
Can the movie match the popularity of the series?
The Mirzapur series has developed a huge fan base over its three seasons, making the transition from streaming to theatres a significant moment for the franchise.
The movie combines several familiar characters with new faces and a larger cinematic scale. The trailer has already generated considerable discussion among fans, particularly because of the new characters and the continuing battle for power.
Now the biggest question is whether Mirzapur: The Movie can recreate the same excitement on the big screen that made the original series such a phenomenon.
With the theatrical release scheduled for September 4, fans won't have to wait much longer to find out.
