LPG Cylinder New Rule: Aadhaar Biometric Verification Now Mandatory for Subsidy! Check How to Complete e-KYC From Home

If you receive a government subsidy on your domestic LPG cylinder, there is an important update you should not ignore. The Central Government has made Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) mandatory for consumers who want to book LPG refills at the regulated price with the applicable subsidy from October 1, 2026.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas announced this requirement to ensure that LPG subsidies reach genuine beneficiaries and to prevent duplicate or ineligible connections.

According to government data released on September 19, around 27.43 crore domestic LPG consumers, representing 89.9% of active consumers, had already completed biometric authentication. These customers do not need to repeat the process.

However, consumers who have not completed verification should understand the new rules and complete the process to continue receiving applicable subsidy benefits.

What Is the New LPG Aadhaar Authentication Rule?

Under the new requirement, domestic LPG consumers must complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication to book refills at the regulated Retail Selling Price (RSP) with the applicable government subsidy.

The authentication process connects the LPG connection with the Aadhaar-verified identity of the consumer.

The government says this will help identify duplicate connections, prevent the diversion of subsidised domestic cylinders for commercial purposes and improve transparency in subsidy distribution.

Importantly, the rule does not mean that people who have not completed authentication will be permanently denied LPG.

How to Complete LPG Aadhaar e-KYC From Home

Consumers can complete biometric Aadhaar authentication through the official mobile applications of their respective LPG companies.

Here are the applications you need to use:

  • Indane Gas: IndianOil ONE app.

  • Bharatgas: HelloBPCL app.

  • HP Gas: HP PAY app.

After opening the relevant application, look for the Aadhaar authentication or e-KYC facility and follow the instructions provided.

You may need to provide Aadhaar-related details and complete the required verification using the available authentication facility.

Make sure you use the official application and never share your OTP or sensitive information with unauthorised agents.

Can You Complete LPG Biometric Verification During Cylinder Delivery?

Yes. You do not necessarily need to visit an LPG distributor or complete the process yourself through an application.

The government has provided multiple options:

  1. During cylinder delivery: The delivery person can complete the authentication using the authorised oil marketing company's mobile application.

  2. At the distributor's office: Visit your LPG distributor and request biometric Aadhaar authentication.

  3. Through the mobile application: Use the official application of Indane, Bharatgas or HP Gas to complete the available verification process.

These facilities are intended to make authentication accessible to consumers in both urban and rural areas.

What Happens If You Do Not Complete Aadhaar Authentication?

Consumers who have not completed biometric authentication can still receive LPG, but they will not be eligible to book subsidised refills at the regulated price until the authentication requirement is fulfilled.

According to the government's announcement, consumers who are unwilling or unable to complete BAA can register their choice through their oil marketing company's digital channels, including its website, mobile application, WhatsApp chatbot or IVRS facility.

They can continue receiving LPG at the applicable market price without subsidy, through 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders, subject to local availability.

Therefore, consumers should understand that the requirement primarily concerns access to subsidised refills rather than a complete ban on LPG supply.

How Much LPG Subsidy Does the Government Provide?

The government has stated that domestic LPG is sold below its actual cost, with financial support provided to oil marketing companies to maintain affordability.

According to the Ministry's September 2026 announcement, the implicit subsidy was approximately ₹210 per 14.2 kg cylinder during September, compared with ₹721 per cylinder in June 2026.

The government also reported that it paid oil marketing companies ₹22,000 crore in compensation during FY 2022-23 and is providing ₹30,000 crore during FY 2025-26 and FY 2026-27.

The objective of biometric verification is to ensure that this financial support reaches eligible households.

What If You Face Problems During LPG e-KYC?

If you experience difficulties while completing Aadhaar authentication, you can contact your LPG distributor or use the official customer support channels of your gas company.

The government has also provided a toll-free LPG assistance number:

1800 2333 555

Before contacting customer support, keep your LPG consumer number and registered mobile number available.

Important Things Every LPG Consumer Should Remember

  • Consumers who have already completed biometric Aadhaar authentication do not need to repeat it.

  • Use only official LPG company applications for online verification.

  • Authentication can also be completed during cylinder delivery or at the distributor's showroom.

  • LPG supply is not completely stopped for consumers who have not authenticated, but applicable subsidy benefits depend on completing the verification.

  • Never share your Aadhaar OTP or banking details with unknown callers.

The new rule makes Aadhaar authentication an important part of the LPG subsidy process. Consumers who depend on subsidised cooking gas should check their authentication status and complete any pending verification through an authorised channel.
