A purported leak from a document labelled as part of America's National Security Strategy has sparked intense debate across Europe. The document allegedly suggests that the United States aims to weaken or remove the current ruling parties in France, the United Kingdom, and Germany. These nations are led by Emmanuel Macron, Keir Starmer, and Friedrich Merz respectively.
However, Washington has strongly denied the claims, stating that no such document exists and calling the leak “fabricated.”
According to a report by The Telegraph UK, the leaked papers outline a broader US plan to strategically isolate Europe. The timing of the leak is notable, as several European governments are already under pressure amid ongoing tensions with Russia over the Ukraine conflict.
Plan to Influence Leadership Changes in Three Countries
The alleged document states that in order to “counterbalance Europe,” the US should strengthen internal opposition in key European nations by supporting nationalist or right-leaning parties. Although no party is named directly, analysts claim the language appears coded. The suggested interpretations include:
-
In France, boost support for Marine Le Pen’s party to challenge President Macron, whose term ends in 2027.
-
In the United Kingdom, promote the Reform Party as a rival to Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s Labour Party.
-
In Germany, rejuvenate the far-right AfD to weaken Friedrich Merz and Germany’s mainstream political establishment.
Strategy to Separate Four European Nations
The leaked papers also allegedly outline a plan to create distance between Europe and four nations currently governed by right-wing parties: Hungary, Italy, Poland, and Austria. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is noted as one of the leaders most positively viewed by Donald Trump, who has repeatedly praised her.
One section of the document reportedly states:
“Within Europe, the United States should support parties, movements, and cultural figures that seek to restore sovereignty and traditional European values, while maintaining alignment with American interests.”
Recent Trump Remarks Intensify Debate
Adding to the controversy, former US President Donald Trump recently told Politico that Europe is “heading toward decline” and that its dominance is fading.
Although his comments were unrelated to the leak, they have added fuel to ongoing speculation about US–Europe friction.
