Kia India recorded strong sales growth in September 2026, with total sales reaching 32,017 vehicles, representing a 41% increase compared with September 2025. The newly launched Kia Sorento also attracted considerable attention, recording sales of 1,739 units during its first month on the market.
The Sorento ranked as Kia India's fifth-best-selling model for the month, adding momentum to the company's expanding SUV portfolio. With premium features, multiple powertrain options and six- and seven-seat configurations, the vehicle targets customers looking for a spacious and feature-rich SUV.
1. Kia Sorento Price and First-Month Sales
The Kia Sorento was launched in India on September 4, 2026, with prices ranging from ₹27.99 lakh to ₹40.39 lakh, ex-showroom.
The SUV recorded sales of 1,739 units in September. The company had also dispatched 365 units to dealerships in August, taking the combined figure for August and September to 2,104 units, including those earlier dealer dispatches.
Its initial sales performance has placed the Sorento among Kia India's leading models, although sustained demand over the coming months will provide a clearer picture of its market position.
2. Two Powertrain Options for Different Buyers
The Kia Sorento offers two powertrain choices designed to suit different driving preferences.
The first is a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong-hybrid system. Its petrol engine produces 180 hp and 265 Nm of torque, while the electric motor adds 65 hp.
The second option is a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine that generates 193 hp and 442 Nm of torque. Buyers can also choose between six-seat and seven-seat configurations, making the SUV suitable for families seeking additional passenger space.
3. Premium Features and Advanced Safety Technology
The Sorento's cabin focuses on comfort, technology and convenience. Key features include:
-
Two 12.3-inch displays
-
A head-up display
-
Ventilated front seats
-
Ventilated second-row captain's seats
-
A panoramic sunroof
-
A powered tailgate
Safety equipment includes 10 airbags, a 360-degree camera, a dual dashcam and Level 2+ Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
These features position the Sorento as a premium offering for buyers who value modern technology, passenger comfort and additional driver-assistance capabilities.
4. Kia India Sales Rise 29% in the First Half of FY2027
Kia India's growth extended beyond September. Between April and September 2026, the company recorded sales of 168,683 vehicles, representing a 29% increase compared with the corresponding period last year.
During the July–September quarter, Kia sold 89,259 vehicles. This was a 39% year-on-year increase and a 12% rise compared with the first quarter of the financial year.
The figures indicate stronger demand across the company's vehicle range, with SUVs continuing to play a significant role in its sales performance.
5. Seltos Leads Kia India's Sales
The Kia Seltos was the company's best-selling model during the first half of FY2027, recording sales of 67,667 units, a 99% increase compared with the same period last year.
The Kia Sonet secured second place with 56,929 units sold, registering 21% growth.
Meanwhile, the combined sales of the Carens, Carens Clavis and Clavis EV reached 34,284 units, an 18% decline compared with the previous year.
The Seltos and Sonet therefore remained important contributors to Kia India's overall sales, while the newly introduced Sorento added another option to the company's SUV lineup.
The Bottom Line
Kia India recorded strong sales growth in September 2026, supported by demand for established models and the early performance of the Sorento. With 1,739 units sold in its first month, the new SUV entered the company's top five models for September.
Its hybrid and diesel powertrains, spacious seating configurations and extensive feature list give it a distinctive position in Kia's portfolio. Whether the Sorento can maintain its early momentum will depend on continued customer demand and competition in India's premium SUV market.
