Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal took a sharp dig at the Congress leadership after AAP's victories in the Ludhiana West (Punjab) and Visavadar (Gujarat) by-elections, claiming the wins signal a major shift in voter trust. While Sanjeev Arora secured a win in Ludhiana and Gopal Italia triumphed in Gujarat’s Visavadar, Kejriwal used the moment to project AAP as the true alternative and slammed Congress for allegedly siding with the BJP.
Key Highlights:
-
Ludhiana West (Punjab): AAP's Sanjeev Arora defeated Congress' Bharat Bhushan Ashu by over 10,000 votes.
-
Visavadar (Gujarat): Gopal Italia emerged victorious; BJP came second, Congress third.
Kejriwal’s Attack on Congress:
Speaking after the results, Kejriwal said:
“Congress was never the hope of the people of Gujarat. The top leadership of Congress is sitting in the lap of BJP. Both are fighting elections together. The people have understood this game.”
He accused Congress of failing to represent the real opposition and claimed the public sees AAP as the true alternative to both BJP and Congress.
Message to Supporters:
Kejriwal called these victories a "semi-final" ahead of the 2027 Gujarat elections and promised:
“In the next Punjab elections, AAP will cross the 100-seat mark. People now want leaders with clean images and intent.”
He credited the wins to public trust in honest politics, adding that AAP has disproved the long-held belief that “good people cannot survive in politics.”
Why It Matters:
-
The results reaffirm AAP’s continued dominance in Punjab.
-
In Gujarat, it marks a rising foothold for AAP, challenging both BJP and a struggling Congress.
-
Kejriwal’s comments indicate AAP’s strategy of attacking Congress as weak and complicit, while positioning itself as the only credible challenger to BJP.
The twin victories have bolstered AAP’s confidence, and Kejriwal has made it clear: the party now has its eyes set on 2027—with both Gujarat and Punjab in its crosshairs.
