Ahead of Bakrid, the Delhi government has issued a strict advisory to maintain public order and ensure animal welfare. The advisory emphasizes that any illegal animal sacrifice or slaughter of banned animals will be dealt with firmly under the law.
The advisory clearly states that sacrifices can only be performed at designated locations approved by the authorities. Animals such as cows, calves, and camels are strictly prohibited from being sacrificed. Additionally, the government has also banned the sharing of photos or videos of animal sacrifice on social media platforms.
Delhi government minister Kapil Mishra underlined the seriousness of the directive. He said illegal animal sacrifice will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Emphasizing the importance of animal welfare, Mishra said society must act with sensitivity while observing religious traditions. Any act of sacrifice in public places like roads, streets, or residential neighborhoods will invite strict legal action.
The advisory also highlights a complete ban on uploading images or videos related to sacrifice on social media. The government believes such content can escalate communal tensions. Those found violating this rule will face action under applicable cyber laws.
Kapil Mishra also made an appeal to the public, urging citizens to celebrate the festival peacefully and in accordance with government guidelines. He encouraged people to report any violations to the authorities. The minister reiterated that the government would not tolerate any breach of the advisory.
The measures aim to strike a balance between religious observance and the need for social harmony, law, and order during the festival period.
