Employees, if you filed your ITR before July 31st, this news is for you. Often, employees file their ITRs early to avoid missing the deadline. However, even if you've already filed your ITR, it's important to double-check some important points before July 31st. This can help prevent future complications and refund delays.
First, check whether your ITR has been e-verified. Simply filing your return doesn't complete the process. If your return isn't e-verified, it may be considered invalid. Therefore, ensure that your ITR status is "Successfully e-verified." Additionally, it's important to double-check your AIS (Annual Information Statement), TIS (Taxpayer Information Summary), and Form 26AS to ensure that the income information, TDS, and other details listed in these statements match your ITR.
Often, information is updated later by your bank, employer, or other organization. Therefore, it's important to check whether you've received additional TDS credit. Also, ensure that all sources of income, deductions, discounts, capital gains, foreign asset information, and carryforward losses are correctly disclosed in your return.
If you're due a refund, check that your bank account details are correct and valid. Incorrect bank details could delay your refund. Additionally, you should preserve Form 16, TDS certificates, investment proofs, bank statements, and other important documents. It's equally important to regularly check for notifications, emails, or messages from the Income Tax Department.
