News of problems in online portal

Let us tell you that according to the Income Tax Department, more than seven crore ITRs were filed till September 15. In fact, due to the expiry of the deadline for filing returns, users had to face heavy traffic on the e-filing portal on the last day. It is believed that for this reason CBDT has given one more day to the income tax payers to file returns.

Provision of penalty for delay in filing return

Earlier, the Income Tax Department had informed that the last date for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) for the financial year 2025-26 is September 15. CBDT had extended the date of July 31 to September 15. In such a situation, if you have not filed income tax return till now, then do this work today, otherwise you may be fined. To file the return, you can choose the ITR form according to your income and profession.

You can choose these options

Section 44ADA of the Income Tax Act provides for taxation for certain professions, where 50 per cent of the gross receipts is considered as your income. This is only for individuals and partnership firms. Like 44ADA, Section 44AD also provides for people engaged in business, where 8 per cent of the turnover is considered as income.

  • There is an unresolved controversy as to whether persons not covered under 44ADA can opt for section 44AD.

The date was extended from July 31 to September 15

The department had in May announced the extension of the due date for filing of ITR for assessment year (AY) 2025-26 (for income earned in financial year 2024-25) by such individuals, HUFs and entities from July 31 to September 15.
