India Mourns Legendary Spinner Dilip Doshi’s Sudden Demise in England

In the midst of Team India’s ongoing Test series in England, the cricket fraternity is shaken by the sudden loss of one of its legendary players. Former Indian left-arm spinner Dilip Doshi passed away in London due to heart-related complications at the age of 77. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared the heartbreaking news on social media, expressing grief over the loss of the distinguished cricketer.
Dilip Doshi represented India in 33 Test matches and 15 One Day Internationals between 1979 and 1983, carving a niche for himself with his skillful spin bowling. Born on December 22, 1947, in Rajkot, Gujarat, Doshi spent most of his domestic career playing for Bengal and was one of the rare players to make his Test debut after turning 30, yet still managing to take over 100 wickets at the highest level.
Doshi's remarkable achievements include 114 wickets in Tests, featuring six five-wicket hauls, and 22 wickets in ODIs with a commendable economy rate of 3.96. In first-class cricket, he took an extraordinary 898 wickets in 238 matches, including 43 five-wicket and six ten-wicket hauls. His cricketing journey also took him to England, where he played county cricket for Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire.
Making his Test debut against Australia in Chennai in 1979 at the age of 32, Doshi immediately made an impact by taking 6 wickets in the first innings and 2 in the second, emerging as India’s best bowler in that match. His last international appearance came against Pakistan in 1983, and he retired from first-class cricket in 1986.
