Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed the second-fastest half-century by an Indian batsman in an Under-19 ODI during the third Youth ODI against England on Wednesday. Chasing the target, the left-handed batsman reached his half-century in just 20 balls by hitting a six off England's James Minto.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi created history in Under-19 ODIs during the third Youth ODI against England in Northampton on Wednesday. Vaibhav made headlines by scoring the second fastest half-century by an Indian. The 14-year-old completed his half-century in just 20 balls by hitting a long six off James Minto and scored 86 runs in just 31 balls.
In this rain-affected match, England batted first and scored 268 runs in 40 overs. Chasing a challenging target of 269 runs, Vaibhav Suryavanshi gave India a quick start. Despite the early dismissal of stand-in captain Abhigyan Kundu, the left-handed batsman signaled his intention by hitting two fours in his first 13 balls.
Half century scored in 20 balls
After this, he displayed clean and fearless batting. Nine sixes and six fours came out of his bat and he devastated the English bowling attack and completed his half-century in 20 balls. With this half-century, he created new history. He became the second fastest player to score a half-century from India in Under-19 cricket.
Pant's record was saved from being broken
Earlier, only Rishabh Pant has scored the fastest half-century for India in Under-19 cricket. He did this feat in 18 balls against Nepal during the 2016 Under-19 World Cup. Vaibhav Suryavanshi not only scored a fast half-century but also broke Mandeep Singh's 16-year-old record.
Mandeep Singh left behind
He surpassed Mandeep Singh in hitting the most sixes in an Under-19 innings. Mandeep Singh hit 8 sixes during his 151-run innings against Australia Under-19 in 2009. Vaibhav Suryavanshi broke the record by hitting 8 sixes during his 86-run innings.
