Tension gripped Mundaka village in Nuh district on Tuesday after a minor altercation between two youths from different communities escalated into communal violence. The clash, which began over the removal of a vehicle, soon turned violent with stone-pelting, arson, and vandalism reported from the area.
How the Violence Started
According to locals, the incident began when Isra’s son, a resident of Hajipur in Rajasthan, parked his vehicle in the middle of the road in Mundaka village. Samay Singh, a villager riding a bike, allegedly asked him to move it. Instead of complying, Isra’s son reportedly attacked Singh with a bottle.
The situation quickly spiraled out of control as supporters from both sides gathered at the spot. Shops were vandalized, a motorcycle was set on fire, and heavy stone-pelting took place. A tea stall and puncture shop outside Isra’s house were also damaged.
Eyewitness Account
Speaking to TV9 Bharatvarsh, Isra’s granddaughter Rizwana alleged that a “small argument” was deliberately given a Hindu-Muslim colour. She claimed that within minutes, hundreds of people gathered, set their shops on fire, and pelted stones at their home. Glass bottles were allegedly thrown, injuring several family members who are now undergoing treatment in hospital.
“At present, only women are at home and we are living in fear. We have suffered heavy losses and demand justice,” Rizwana said.
Police Action and Investigation
CCTV footage from the area shows miscreants carrying sticks and stones. Based on the footage, police have identified suspects and detained 12 people. An FIR has been registered against one named person and 30-40 unidentified individuals. Authorities have also warned that strict action will be taken against those spreading rumours.
SP Nuh Rajesh Kumar confirmed that the incident occurred around 4 pm when a dispute between two youths escalated, attracting 4-5 people from each side. “Some miscreants attempted to disturb peace, but the situation was brought under control promptly. Three to four people sustained injuries. Two suspects have been identified and FIRs have been lodged,” he said, adding that the situation is now under control.
Link to 2023 Nuh Violence
Mundaka village sarpanch Ramkishore Saini alleged that the violence was pre-planned and connected to the 2023 clashes during the Shobha Yatra at Nalhar temple. He claimed that Isra’s family harboured resentment from that time and used the village’s upcoming turban ceremony as an opportunity to incite unrest.
According to Saini, announcements were made from the mosque claiming “Islam is in danger,” which led to hundreds of Muslim youths gathering at the spot. Shops belonging to Hindus were allegedly set ablaze, and several accused remain absconding.
