Remedies for Cold in Children Under 12

  1. If your child is above 3 years of age and is suffering from cold, then you can adopt the following measures.
  2. Give ginger juice mixed with honey to children over 1 year of age two to three times a day to help relieve sore throat.
  3. If your child has a blocked nose, mix half a teaspoon of warm ghee with a little black pepper and give it to your child to drink. This will help with breathing relief.
  4. If you want, you can also give turmeric milk to the child, which will soothe the swelling in the throat.

Follow these measures below the age of 60

  1. To ease the symptoms of a cold, drink a decoction made from four to five basil leaves, cloves, black pepper, a little jaggery, and ginger. This provides relief from colds and headaches.
  2. Steam ajwain and turmeric in hot water. This will clear a blocked nose. Before bed, give the child ginger juice mixed with honey and a pinch of black pepper. This will provide relief from a persistent cough.

Steam to open a blocked nose

When you have a cold, your nose gets blocked, causing difficulty in breathing. Steam and inhalation are effective in such cases. Make a bundle of celery and put it in hot water and inhale the steam. Mint, mustard oil, camphor, eucalyptus oil are also used to clear a blocked nose. You can also inhale a few drops of eucalyptus oil in hot water. Steam inhalation reduces lung pressure and helps you sleep soundly throughout the night. To inhale the steam, cover your head with a towel and inhale the steam of hot water by breathing deeply for 8 to 10 minutes.

Remedies to remove chest congestion

Combine 1/2 cup water, 1 tablespoon jaggery, 1/2 teaspoon green cardamom powder, celery, black pepper powder, black salt, and ginger powder in a pan. Cook for about 5 minutes and store in a container. Drink 1 teaspoon of the decoction in the morning and evening. This will loosen chest congestion and cure a dry cough.
