"Everyone Left Me, Only Rishabh Pant Stood By": Prithvi Shaw Opens Up on Career Struggles and Isolation

Once hailed as Indian cricket’s next big thing, Prithvi Shaw is now fighting hard to revive a career that once promised greatness. In a recent emotional interview, the 24-year-old batter opened up about how he lost form, friends, and fame—but found unwavering support from one teammate: Rishabh Pant.

Rishabh Pant Was My Only Support: Shaw

Speaking candidly, Shaw revealed that when his life and career began to fall apart, everyone drifted away—except Rishabh Pant.

“When I was completely alone, it was Rishabh who kept checking on me. He still does. Whenever I break down or am not doing well mentally, he calls me without fail,” Shaw said.

The Delhi Capitals duo have shared a strong bond since their under-19 days, but Shaw's revelation highlights just how rare such loyalty is in professional sport.

From Rising Star to Career Crisis

Prithvi Shaw burst onto the scene in 2018, smashing a century on Test debut at just 18. He was immediately branded the next "Sachin Tendulkar." But things soon unraveled. Between poor form, injuries, and off-field distractions, Shaw’s place in the national team slipped away after 2021.

  • He was dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji squad

  • Went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction

  • Now seeking an NOC to play domestic cricket from another state

“I Went Off Track”

Shaw admitted that the downfall was partly his own doing:

“I used to train for hours. The ground was like my home. But then I got distracted. I started hanging out with the wrong people—friends who were only around because of my fame. I began giving time to things that weren’t important. That was my mistake.”

Sachin Tendulkar Also Reached Out

Despite everything, Shaw hasn’t been completely abandoned. He revealed that Sachin Tendulkar, the man he was once compared to, also reached out:

“Sachin sir spoke to me. He motivated me to get back on track and reminded me of my potential.”

The Road Ahead

With his Mumbai chapter nearing its end, Shaw is now exploring opportunities with other state teams to reboot his career. He’s already requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association.
