The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has rolled out major reforms aimed at providing faster services and better facilities for employees across India.
One-Stop Service Centers Like Passport Offices
Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya announced on Friday that EPFO offices across the country will be reorganized into single-window service centers, similar to passport offices.
Once implemented nationwide, employees can resolve their PF-related issues at any EPFO office, eliminating the need to visit the regional office linked to their employment history. Delhi is already running a pilot project for this system.
Digital Platform for Easy Access
To assist employees who are not digitally savvy, the government will launch authorized EPF facilitators. These facilitators will help employees:
-
File claims
-
Update KYC details
-
Resolve other PF-related issues
Additionally, EPFO will launch a new digital platform to verify KYC in mission mode, unlock inactive account balances, and ensure smooth operations.
Protecting Indians Working Abroad
Upcoming free trade agreements will safeguard the PF contributions of Indians working overseas, ensuring they can access their benefits when returning to India.
EPFO currently manages ₹28 lakh crore and offers a government-guaranteed 8.25% annual interest. Its social security coverage extends to 94 crore people, with a target of reaching 100 crore by March 2026.
Old Rules vs. New System
Previously, account holders had to visit the specific regional office linked to their employer for any issue. Under the new system:
-
All processes will be largely digital
-
Employees can visit any nearby EPFO office to get their work done
-
For those facing difficulties with digital systems, EPF facilitators will act as bridges, helping with claims and other procedures
This reform is expected to make EPFO services faster, more efficient, and convenient for millions of employees nationwide.
