The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has issued an important warning to its members about fake websites and phishing links. Fraudsters may create websites that look similar to official EPFO pages and use them to trick people into sharing sensitive information.
With many PF-related services now available online, members need to be especially careful when receiving links through SMS, email, WhatsApp, or social media. A seemingly genuine link could lead to a fraudulent website designed to collect personal or financial information.
How can fake EPFO links put you at risk?
Scammers can create websites that closely resemble legitimate government portals. They may use familiar logos, similar layouts, or misleading website names to make the page appear genuine.
These fake websites or messages may ask for information such as your UAN, Aadhaar details, PAN, bank-account information, password, or OTP.
EPFO's own information booklet warns members about fake websites and phishing emails and states that the official EPFO website is epfindia.gov.in. It also advises members never to share their password or OTP with anyone.
Therefore, don't click on an unfamiliar link simply because it appears to be related to your PF account.
Never share your UAN password or OTP
Members should be extremely careful with their login credentials and one-time passwords. EPFO advises members to keep their passwords confidential and never share OTPs received during EPFO transactions.
If a message or caller asks you to provide an OTP, password, bank details, or other sensitive information to complete a PF-related process, stop and verify the source first.
Always check the website address
One of the simplest ways to avoid phishing is to check the website address before entering any information.
Instead of opening PF-related services through an unsolicited SMS, email, or social-media link, open your browser and manually visit the official EPFO website.
EPFO has also identified UMANG as its official app for accessing its digital services.
EPFO services are increasingly moving online
Members can now use digital platforms for several PF-related services, including UAN-related services, KYC updates, passbook access, and claim-related activities. EPFO has also introduced newer digital processes for UAN generation and activation through UMANG and Aadhaar-based face authentication.
As more services become digital, protecting login credentials and personal information becomes increasingly important.
