Aadhaar has become an important identity document for accessing a wide range of government and financial services. Keeping the details linked to your Aadhaar updated is therefore important. Now, UIDAI has announced a useful relief for Aadhaar users who want to update their email address.

The fee for updating an email address through the official Aadhaar mobile application has been waived from July 1 to December 31, 2026. Normally, this service costs ₹75, but eligible users can now complete the email-update process through the Aadhaar app without paying this fee.

Aadhaar email update is free till December 31

UIDAI has launched its new Aadhaar mobile application to make several Aadhaar-related services easier to access.

As part of the latest initiative, the ₹75 charge for updating an email address through the Aadhaar mobile app has been waived for six months, from July 1 through December 31, 2026.

This means Aadhaar holders who want to add or update their email address can use the app during this period without paying the regular fee for this particular service.

The new Aadhaar app provides several digital services beyond email updates. How to register on the Aadhaar app?

To use the app, Aadhaar holders need to download the official Aadhaar application on their Android or iOS device.

The registration process involves entering the Aadhaar number, accepting the terms and privacy policy, selecting the relevant SIM card, and completing face authentication. After successful registration, the user can set a six-digit PIN to secure access to the application.

Can you update all Aadhaar details online?

Not every Aadhaar update can currently be completed online.

UIDAI allows certain services, such as address and document updates, through online channels. However, several demographic and biometric changes may require a visit to an Aadhaar Enrolment or Update Centre.

For example, mobile-number updates are not currently permitted through the regular online update process and may require an Aadhaar centre or the prescribed alternative service.

UIDAI recommends keeping documents updated

UIDAI recommends that Aadhaar holders update their supporting documents for proof of identity and proof of address at least once every 10 years from the date the Aadhaar number was generated. The document-update facility is available through the MyAadhaar portal and at Aadhaar centres.

This can be particularly important if your address or other identity details have changed over the years.

While updating Aadhaar online, users should be careful about fake websites, apps, calls, and messages.
