There’s a special comfort in eating Gond Laddoo during winter. Gond is known for generating warmth in the body, which makes it a perfect winter ingredient. Traditionally, grandmothers made these laddoos at home, and everyone loved them—not just for the taste, but also for the nutrition and care packed into each bite. Along with gond, these laddoos include wheat flour, dry fruits, ghee, and sugar, all of which help keep the body strong and energised in the cold months.
In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, people have moved away from such traditional foods, which is why issues like fatigue, low stamina, and joint pain are becoming common. But many families still continue the habit of eating Gond Laddoo in winter. If you want to stay warm and healthy this season, you can easily make them at home. Here’s my grandmother’s simple recipe.
Ingredients
Wheat flour – 1 cup
Sugar powder – 1 cup
Ghee – ¾ cup
Gond (edible gum) – ⅓ cup (approx. 100 g)
Cashews – 10 to 12
Melon seeds – 2 tablespoons
Cardamom powder – ¼ teaspoon
How to make Gond Laddoo
Start by breaking the gond into small pieces. Finely chop cashews and other dry fruits of your choice. Heat ghee in a pan and add the gond in small batches. Fry it slowly on low heat. It will puff up like popcorn—make sure it gets roasted properly without burning. Remove and set aside.
In the same ghee, add the wheat flour and roast it till it turns fragrant. Take it out on a plate. Next, roast the dry fruits and melon seeds in the same pan and mix them into the roasted flour.
Crush the fried gond using a rolling pin to make it finer. Add it to the flour-and-dry-fruits mixture. Sprinkle sugar powder over it and mix well. Apply a little ghee on your palms and shape the mixture into laddoos. Let them rest for an hour. Your warm, delicious gond laddoos are ready.
Benefits of Gond Laddoo
According to Ayurveda expert Dr. Sanjay Khedkar from the All India Institute of Ayurveda, Goa, gond contains anti-inflammatory properties that help strengthen bones. Gond laddoos are considered especially helpful for arthritis, joint pain, and overall bone health. Being rich in antioxidants, they also help relieve stress and boost energy—something most people struggle with during winter. Eating one gond laddoo a day can help keep you active and energetic throughout the cold season.
