Following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India launched Operation Sindoor, a powerful response to the terrorists, and security forces took several important steps to safeguard the country. A CAISF officer stated that during Operation Sindoor, Pakistan's primary target was the hydropower project in Uri.
Just hours after India launched Operation Sindoor, Pakistan attempted to target India's Uri hydroelectric plant near the Line of Control (LOC), but the attack was thwarted. Currently, no casualties were reported from the Pakistani attack, according to India's Central Industrial Security Force, which is responsible for the security of strategic locations.
The CISF statement comes in the context of the presentation of the Director General's Disc to 19 personnel on duty at the Uri Hydro Electric Power Projects that night. These soldiers neutralized a drone targeting the installation amid Pakistani fire and evacuated civilians.

Pakistan Army opened heavy fire
Nineteen soldiers were awarded the prestigious DG's Disc at a ceremony at the CISF headquarters in Delhi, an official said. Regarding the incident that took place on the night of May 6, the CISF said that Operation Sindoor was carried out by the Indian Army on the intervening night of May 6-7, 2025. It targeted terrorist hideouts across the Line of Control (LOC) in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The Pakistani Army resorted to heavy shelling in India.
This threatened vital infrastructure, including the Uri hydro-power projects, and endangered the civilian population nearby. CISF units at the NHPC installation, barely a few kilometers from the LoC, were rushed to the front lines to deal with the situation.
Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Gurjeet Singh, who received the DG's Disc along with 18 others for bravery during the failed attacks on vital Pakistani installations, was one of the officers who shot down an enemy drone targeting vital installations about 8-10 km from the Line of Control.
Enemy drone thwarted
CISF stated that despite heavy fire, the team, led by Deputy Commandant Ravi Yadav, initiated security measures to protect the bases and the surrounding settlement. During this difficult time of violence, CISF personnel thwarted an enemy drone targeting the bases. Weapons and their stores were secured first to prevent any damage.
He said that their vigilance and preparedness throughout the crisis kept vital national assets safe. As shells fell near residential areas, CISF personnel went door-to-door to evacuate civilians, including women, children, NHPC employees, and their families. An officer said that during Operation Sindoor, hydropower projects were the primary targets in Uri.
