The Government of India has announced a major expansion of digital public services through platforms such as DigiLocker and UMANG. The latest update could make it easier for citizens to access government services and important documents without repeatedly visiting government offices.
According to the government, thousands of central and state government services are now available through these digital platforms, making them increasingly useful for everyday tasks.
More Than 2,500 Services Available on UMANG
As of July 31, 2026, around 2,575 services are available on the UMANG platform. This includes 880 services from the Central Government and 1,695 services from state governments.
UMANG has also crossed 11.66 crore registered users, highlighting how widely the platform is being used for accessing government services digitally.
DigiLocker Also Gets a Major Boost
DigiLocker has become an important platform for storing and accessing digital documents.
The government says more than 72.43 crore users are registered on DigiLocker, with around 5,437 document types and services available. These include 661 central government offerings and 4,776 state government offerings.
This means citizens can increasingly use verified digital documents instead of carrying physical copies for various official purposes.
Aadhaar and Other Digital Services Are Integrated
One of the major advantages of these platforms is their integration with India's Digital Public Infrastructure.
UMANG and DigiLocker are integrated with systems such as Aadhaar, eSign and API Setu. This allows several government services to be delivered digitally, with authentication and document verification taking place online.
Rural Users Can Also Get Help Through CSCs
The government is also expanding access to digital services in rural and remote areas through Common Service Centres (CSCs).
As of June 30, 2026, more than 4.07 lakh CSCs were operational at the Gram Panchayat level. Around 70,069 of these centres were operated by women Village Level Entrepreneurs.
These centres provide access to government, banking, insurance, pension and utility-payment services for people who may not have easy access to digital facilities themselves.
Why This Update Matters for Common Citizens
The expansion of UMANG and DigiLocker means people can increasingly complete government-related work from their smartphones or computers.
From accessing digital documents to using government services, citizens may not need to make as many trips to offices or maintain multiple physical documents.
The government says the aim is to make public services more accessible, paperless and citizen-friendly. With more departments and state governments continuously being added to these platforms, their usefulness is expected to increase further.
