In a major boost to the national capital’s entertainment infrastructure, Delhi is set to develop its own film city, following similar projects in Noida and Greater Noida. The central government will allocate approximately 486 acres of land to the Delhi government for the project, with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) scheduled to be signed on Friday.
The agreement will be formalised between the Delhi government and Prasar Bharati during the ongoing International Film Festival at Bharat Mandapam. The move is expected to strengthen Delhi’s position in India’s rapidly expanding film and media industry.
While Bollywood has traditionally dominated the country’s cinematic landscape, regional film industries have witnessed significant growth in recent years. Iconic hubs such as Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad have set benchmarks for integrated film production ecosystems, inspiring similar developments across the country.
Meanwhile, the Noida International Film City project, planned in Sector 21 along the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida, has faced delays. Construction was initially expected to begin in June 2025, but progress has slowed due to reported differences between stakeholders.
The Noida project, located close to the upcoming Jewar Airport, aims to become a major centre for film production, editing, animation, and digital content creation. It is also expected to generate employment for nearly 1.5 lakh people, though timelines remain uncertain.
Amid these developments, the proposed film city in Delhi is being seen as a significant opportunity for boosting regional employment and enhancing the capital’s role in India’s evolving entertainment sector.
