DA Hike 2026: Good news for employees! Will dearness allowance increase by 3% again? A major update on DA

Central government employees have been waiting for the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission for the past few months. An important update has emerged regarding this matter. Another significant increase in dearness allowance (DA) is expected. The central government is expected to announce a 3% increase in employees' DA for the months of July to December 2026. After this increase, the current 60% dearness allowance will reach 63%.

Benefits of hike from July 1

The potential increase in dearness allowance will take effect on July 1, 2026. However, the government has not yet officially announced this increase. Therefore, it is important to view this 3% increase as an estimate.

The decision to increase DA is primarily based on inflation data. Given current inflation, a 3% increase is expected for the months of July to December.

DA likely to go up to 63%

Currently, central government employees receive 60% DA. In April 2026, the government announced a 2% increase, increasing the DA from 58% to 60%. This increase was effective from January 1, 2026.

Now, with a further 3% increase, the DA will reach 63%. This will benefit over 12 million central government employees and pensioners across the country.

What will pensioners benefit from?

Along with the DA increase, the dearness allowance (DR) for central government pensioners is also expected to increase by 3%. This could increase the monthly amount received by pensioners.

When can the announcement be made?

Dearness Allowance (DA) increases are typically announced twice a year. The July-December hike is usually announced in October or November. Since Diwali in 2026 falls on November 8th, it's likely the DA hike will be announced around that time. However, the central government will make the final decision, and the amount of the DA increase and its implementation will only be clear after the official announcement.
