Dr. Bhagwan Mantri from the Pulmonology Department at Moolchand Medicity Hospital, Delhi, explains that cough can be triggered by allergies or bacterial infections. Allergy-related cough tends to increase during winter due to dry air. He suggests a few simple methods that can help reduce morning cough.
The most important habit is drinking lukewarm water every morning. In winter, people usually drink less water, which leads to dehydration. Having a glass of warm water on an empty stomach helps reduce throat dryness, soothes the respiratory tract, and flushes out impurities. This can ease symptoms of morning cough.
Ginger and honey
According to Dr. Mantri, ginger and honey are highly effective for cough relief and can be used by anyone except children under the age of one. For a dry cough, take a teaspoon of grated ginger mixed with a teaspoon of honey before sleeping. This helps reduce morning cough and provides noticeable relief.
Steam inhalation
Dr. RP Parashar, Chief Ayurvedic Officer for the Delhi government, says that steam inhalation is another excellent remedy for cough. Taking steam before bedtime helps clear the respiratory tract and reduces irritation.
