Corruption in BCB exposed after T20 World Cup exit, allegations against director cause uproar

Amid the controversy surrounding the 2026 T20 World Cup, corruption within the Bangladesh Cricket Board has sparked outrage. BCB director Mokhlesur Rahman has resigned as chairman of the board's audit committee.

Bangladesh has been foolishly excluded from the 2026 T20 World Cup, with the ICC replacing Scotland in the tournament. Meanwhile, corruption within the Bangladesh Cricket Board has been exposed. Board director Mokhlesur Rahman has been accused of corruption, following which he has resigned as chairman of the audit committee. This matter is related to the BPL (Bangladesh Premier League).

Journalist Riyasad Azim exposed these corruption allegations on social media, prompting an investigation by the BCB's Integrity Unit. A board spokesperson confirmed the report that the BCB is taking these allegations seriously and is investigating. Mokhlesur Rahman is a board member from Chapainawabganj district. He became a director on October 6, 2025. He will remain under investigation until the investigation is complete.

Significantly, the investigation is being led by Alex Marshall, who previously headed the ICC Integrity Unit. He is reviewing reports of corruption in the last season of the Bangladesh Premier League. He will now also investigate Mokhlesur's case.

Second controversy surfaced in a month

This is the second time this month that a Bangladesh Cricket Board director has found himself embroiled in controversy. Players boycotted the Bangladesh Premier League after director M. Nazmul Islam made derogatory remarks. Nazmul was subsequently removed from his position as chairman of the finance committee. However, he was still seen in the president's box at the stadium.

Bangladesh cricket is currently going through a difficult period, and Bangladesh itself is to blame for this. BCB officials made unreasonable demands for schedule changes a month before the start of the 2026 T20 World Cup, which was impossible. Despite the ICC's full assurances of security, Bangladesh remained adamant about not playing in India. As a result, the ICC expelled them from the tournament and awarded the spot to Scotland.
