Popular rapper and singer Badshah has landed in controversy after the release of his new song “Tatihari.” The Haryana State Commission for Women has issued a summons to the artist, asking him to appear before the panel on March 13 and explain the lyrics and visuals of the song.
Objections Over Lyrics and Video
The Haryanvi folk-inspired track, released on March 1, has drawn criticism from several social groups. The commission took action following complaints that alleged the song contains vulgar and objectionable language and portrays inappropriate scenes in its music video.
One of the objections specifically targets the line:
“Aaya Badshah doli chadhaane, in sabki ghodi banane.”
Complainants claim the lyric is derogatory and disrespectful toward women.
Complaints Filed by Social Groups
The notice was issued after a complaint by Savita Arya, president of the Nari Tu Narayani organization in Panipat, along with Shiv Kumar, head of the Shiv Aarti Foundation.
In addition, Rohtak-based advocate Raj Narayan Panghal submitted a separate complaint to the Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, raising concerns about scenes in the music video.
Concerns Over Depiction of Schoolgirls
The video allegedly shows minor girls in school uniforms dancing on a Haryana Roadways bus, carrying school bags and later throwing them aside. Critics argue the scene portrays minors inappropriately and sends the wrong message.
The issue has also drawn protest from community groups, including the Saharan Khap, which has objected to both the lyrics and the video’s portrayal.
Singer Asked to Present His Side
The Women’s Commission has asked Badshah to appear before it and present his explanation regarding the allegations. Depending on the response, the commission may decide further action.
Despite the controversy, the song has gained significant attention online, crossing around 4.2 million views within five days of its release, highlighting both its popularity and the debate surrounding it.
Industry observers note that while controversial lyrics often fuel publicity in the music world, growing scrutiny from social organizations and regulatory bodies is increasingly shaping the boundaries of artistic expression.
