Babar Azam Set for T20 Comeback as Pakistan Looks for Stability in Leadership

Pakistan cricket may soon witness another major captaincy change, with reports suggesting that Babar Azam is likely to return as the captain of the country's T20 team. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly considering replacing current T20 skipper Salman Agha and handing the leadership role back to Babar.

This will be Babar Azam's third stint as Pakistan's T20 captain. He first took charge of the team in 2021 but stepped down after Pakistan's disappointing performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Later, he was again appointed captain ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup, but following another poor campaign, the captaincy was given to Salman Agha.

Now, after Pakistan's struggles under Salman Agha's leadership, the PCB is reportedly looking at Babar as the long-term option. Reports suggest that Babar could continue as T20 captain until the 2028 T20 World Cup.

Babar Azam remains one of Pakistan's most successful T20 batters. He has represented Pakistan in 145 T20 matches, scoring 4,596 runs at an average of 38.9. His record includes three centuries and 39 half-centuries in T20 cricket.

With the possible return of Babar Azam as captain, Pakistan will hope for greater consistency and a fresh push toward future international tournaments.
