As Bihar Assembly elections approach, political debates are intensifying across the country. Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav has strongly criticized the Election Commission (EC), calling it a “jugaad commission” over alleged inaction on affidavits submitted by his party.
Allegations on Affidavits
Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the SP had submitted 17,986 affidavits to the Election Commission regarding alleged irregularities, but responses were received for only 14 affidavits.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he said,
"When the ‘Jugaad Aayog’ can detect a scam of over Rs 1.25 crore using Artificial Intelligence (AI), why did it respond to only 14 of the 18,000 affidavits submitted by us?"
Yadav further claimed that AI was being used to identify fake voters in villages, and more than 1.25 crore names had been deleted from the electoral rolls in connection with the panchayat elections.
Accusations Against BJP and Universities
In addition to targeting the Election Commission, Akhilesh Yadav also accused the BJP of politicizing universities. He stated,
"Since the BJP has 'saffronised' universities, discriminatory and partisan politics in university administrations have negatively impacted students' education and lives. If BJP goes, education comes."
Election Commission’s Response
Last month, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar dismissed opposition allegations of vote manipulation and other irregularities during a press conference. Despite this, Yadav’s attack indicates continued tension between opposition parties and the Election Commission ahead of the Bihar elections.
With the elections drawing closer, this controversy is expected to spark further debate on transparency, voter rights, and administrative accountability in Bihar.
