The government is considering a major step to provide more privacy to Aadhaar card users. The Aadhaar card, recently issued by UIDAI, is now undergoing a major overhaul. Until now, people were often required to submit photocopies of their Aadhaar cards at various locations, raising concerns about misuse of personal information. Addressing these concerns, the government is preparing to redesign the Aadhaar card to enhance user privacy and security.
What will the new Aadhaar card design look like?
According to reports, the new Aadhaar card will have a significantly different design. Previously, the card clearly displayed your name, address, and 12-digit Aadhaar number. However, the new version will only feature your photo and a secure QR code. This means that sensitive personal information will no longer be printed on the card, significantly reducing the risk of data leaks.
What information will the QR code contain?
The QR code on the new Aadhaar card will store all user details in an encrypted format. This includes your name, address, date of birth, and Aadhaar number. However, this information can only be accessed through authorized systems. To scan it, users will need either a government-approved scanner or the UIDAI Aadhaar app.
Why is this change being brought about?
The primary purpose of this change is to prevent fraud and protect user privacy. In many cases, organizations store photocopies of Aadhaar cards without users' knowledge, posing a security risk. Simply having a QR code on the card will make it much more difficult for anyone to misuse personal information.
How is the government promoting Digital Aadhaar?
UIDAI has already taken steps to promote digital Aadhaar by launching a new app that allows users to digitally share their Aadhaar and speed up verification. By redesigning the physical card, the government aims to further strengthen this digital system, reduce paperwork, and simplify the process.
What should users do until the new card is launched?
Until the new Aadhaar card is officially rolled out, users are advised to rely more on the digital Aadhaar rather than the physical copy. The government is also working on initiatives such as Aadhaar Vision 2032, which focuses on improving data security and simplifying the verification process.
