Gross negligence on the part of the staff of Meerut's Bhagyashree Hospital came to light when the hospital staff, instead of stitching the deep injury above the eye of a two-year-old child, bandaged it with Fevicol.
The medical negligence of a two-year-old child in Meerut has raised serious questions about the health system. Manraj Singh, son of finance professional Jasprinder Singh, who lives in Mahapal Heights, Jagriti Vihar Extension, suffered a deep cut near his eye while playing at home. The family panicked and immediately rushed to Bhagyashree Hospital, but what happened there shocked and dismayed everyone.
According to the family, the doctors at the hospital refused to stitch the wound. They said that stitches would leave a scar on the child's face, so they should just bring five rupees worth of Feviquick and we will seal the wound with that. Trusting the doctors, the family brought the Feviquick.
As soon as the doctors applied the Feviquick to the cut near the child's eye, two-year-old Manraj screamed in pain. However, the doctors ignored it, attributing it to the child's fear. According to the family, they immediately suspected the child's condition was serious.
The pain kept increasing throughout the night, the next morning a big truth was revealed.
Instead of subsiding, the pain continued to worsen. The Feviquick deposit near the wound had hardened. In the morning, Manraj was taken to Lokpriya Hospital. The doctors there were stunned by the negligence. Removing the Feviquick took nearly three hours. During this time, the child continued to groan and scream in pain. After carefully removing the stuck part, the doctors treated the wound and applied four stitches. After a considerable time, the child was able to return to normal.
Family members expressed their anger and the CMO ordered an investigation.
Hurt by the serious negligence, father Jasprinder Singh reached Bhagyashree Hospital and demanded answers from the doctors, but when he did not get any response, Jasprinder complained about the entire matter to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Meerut. His complaint clearly states that if the chemical of Feviquick had entered the child's eye, it could have caused damage to his eye. This is not only negligence of the doctors but also a direct gamble with the child's life.
The CMO has taken cognizance of the matter and has ordered an investigation and has asked the same to submit its report within a week. If the hospital is found guilty, serious action can be taken.
