The fitment factor, allowances, and salaries are likely to be discussed at this meeting. This meeting is crucial.
This meeting is considered very important for government employees. Several issues related to employees' salaries, pensions, service conditions, and other matters will be presented to the commission. A previous meeting was held on March 12th, where several proposals were discussed.
Employee organizations have made several suggestions to the Commission. They have written to the Commission requesting the inclusion of nine issues. Previously, all employees were asked to answer 18 questions.
The government has formed a committee for the Eighth Pay Commission, which has been given 18 months to submit its recommendations. It reviews employees' salaries, allowances, and pensions.
Focus on the fitment factor
The Eighth Pay Commission relies on a fitment factor, which determines the basic salary. Employees are demanding a fitment factor of 3.25 or higher. They are demanding a reasonable salary increase in line with inflation.
Dearness Allowance and Merger
Currently, employees' dearness allowance is 58 percent. This dearness allowance is expected to be increased to 60 percent. Meanwhile, there are calls to include the dearness allowance in the basic salary. Along with this salary increase, house rent allowance, travel allowance, pension, and gratuity will also be increased. A decision on this matter is expected after the meeting on April 13th.
