Dozens of cases were registered against Rehman, ranging from murder, kidnapping, drug trafficking, and extortion. In August 2009, the Pakistani government launched a major crackdown in Lyari, and Rehman was killed in a police encounter. He was only 34 years old at the time of his death. Uzair Baloch subsequently took over the reins of his gang.
