Who is Mohammad Iqbal? Declared a 'fugitive offender', three sugar mills worth ₹1,000 crore will be confiscated

Mohammad Iqbal has been declared a "fugitive economic offender." The court has also ordered the seizure of his three sugar mills worth ₹1,000 crore. This action was taken under the FEOA, marking a major success for the ED.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken a major action against economic crimes by declaring Mohammad Iqbal a fugitive economic offender. This decision came on March 31, 2026, when the court officially declared him a fugitive economic offender under the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act (FEOA). Judge Rahul Prakash, who was hearing the case, took a tough stance in his order and ordered the seizure of three major sugar mills belonging to Iqbal.

The sugar mills ordered to be confiscated by the court are estimated to be worth approximately ₹1,000 crore. All these properties will now be taken over by the government. It is reported that Mohammad Iqbal has been eluding the reach of investigating agencies for a long time and has been continuously trying to evade the legal process. Therefore, this action under the FEOA is considered extremely important.

This law seizes the assets of economic offenders who flee the country and never return. This action by the ED's Lucknow Zonal Office is being seen as a major success. It sends a clear message that no matter how high-profile the accused is, if they try to evade the law, their assets will be seized directly.
