Where Is India’s Asia Cup Trophy? BCCI Reveals Latest Update on the Long-Running Controversy

Months after winning the Asia Cup title, the Indian cricket team is still waiting to receive the trophy, according to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The dispute over the handover of the trophy has continued, with no final resolution yet.

BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla has now shared an update, saying that efforts are still being made to get the trophy officially handed over to India.

How Did the Trophy Controversy Begin?

The issue started after the Asia Cup final held in Dubai on September 28 last year. India defeated Pakistan by five wickets to win the championship.

As per tradition, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav was expected to receive the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, who was serving as the president of the Asian Cricket Council.

However, the Indian team chose not to accept the trophy from Naqvi. Reports said the decision was linked to political tensions and the team’s stance regarding the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.

BCCI Says It Has Requested the Trophy

Speaking to PTI, Rajeev Shukla said that the BCCI has repeatedly contacted the ACC leadership regarding the trophy.

He stated that requests have been made to the ACC president and directors to hand over the trophy, but no response has been received so far.

According to Shukla, India remains the official winner regardless of whether the physical trophy has been handed over.

Where Is the Trophy Now?

Following India’s refusal to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, reports suggested that the trophy was taken to his hotel and later kept at the ACC office in Dubai.

According to ACC rules, the trophy cannot be moved or handed over without approval from the council’s president.

The BCCI has held discussions with both the Pakistan Cricket Board and the ACC, and the matter was also reportedly discussed at the international level, but no solution has been reached yet.

India Remains the Champion

Despite the ongoing dispute over the physical trophy, India’s victory on the field remains unchanged. The BCCI maintains that the team won the tournament and that the missing trophy does not affect the official result.
