Vaibhav Suryavanshi's East Zone Storms Into Duleep Trophy Semi-Finals After Massive Win

Vaibhav Suryavanshi's East Zone has booked its place in the Duleep Trophy semi-finals after producing a dominant performance against North East Zone in Bengaluru.

East Zone won the quarter-final by an innings and 210 runs, completing a huge victory in Vaibhav's first Duleep Trophy appearance. The 15-year-old has been named vice-captain of East Zone, making the result an especially memorable milestone in his red-ball career.

East Zone Posted a Huge 467

After being asked to bat, East Zone put together an imposing first-innings total of 467 runs.

Sudip Kumar Gharami led the charge with an excellent 146, while Shahbaz Ahmed produced an even bigger innings, scoring 167 runs. Their centuries helped East Zone establish complete control over the match.

Vaibhav, however, could not make a major contribution with the bat. On his much-anticipated Duleep Trophy debut, he scored just 8 runs from six deliveries, hitting two boundaries before being dismissed.

North East Zone Struggled Under Pressure

North East Zone's response was nowhere near East Zone's massive total.

They were bowled out for just 111 runs in their first innings, leaving them with a huge deficit and forcing them to follow on. East Zone's bowlers continued to dominate after North East Zone's second innings began.

The second innings ended with North East Zone being dismissed for 146, completing a comprehensive innings victory for East Zone.

Vaibhav Makes an Impact With the Ball

Although Vaibhav's batting performance disappointed fans, the youngster made an immediate impact with the ball.

He claimed two wickets in the same over, finishing with figures of 2 wickets for 11 runs from three overs. His spell provided a positive moment after his early dismissal with the bat.

The performance also showed that Vaibhav can contribute to his team in more than one department, even when things don't go his way with the bat.
