A chilling case of betrayal and murder has come to light ahead of Valentine’s Day in Agra, where a man allegedly killed his former girlfriend to begin a new life with another woman. The crime, which also involved the accused’s parents, surfaced after the body of a young woman was found abandoned near the Khandauli toll plaza on the Yamuna Expressway on February 6.
The body, wrapped in a blanket, bore visible injury marks and signs of strangulation. Using artificial intelligence tools, the Agra police reconstructed the woman’s facial features and circulated her photograph on social media, leading to her identification as Sonali, a resident of Mahoba district.
Left Home for Love
According to police investigations, Sonali was married but had left her husband and home four years ago to live with Sunny, a resident of Jahangirpuri in Delhi. She reportedly believed Sunny would offer her a secure future. However, police claim that Sunny was involved in illegal activities and later became involved with another woman.
Motive Behind the Murder
Investigators say the crime was driven by Sunny’s desire to marry his new girlfriend on February 14. Sonali strongly objected to his relationship and allegedly refused to leave his life. Seeing her as an obstacle, Sunny decided to eliminate her, police said.
Parents Allegedly Aided the Crime
Police allege that Sunny strangled Sonali to death, with his parents—father Pradeep and his mother—actively assisting in the plan. After the murder, Sunny rented a Thar vehicle, wrapped the body in a blanket and set out to dispose of it. The initial plan was to dump the body into a river, but fearing daylight and detection, the accused allegedly abandoned the body along the Yamuna Expressway before fleeing.
Swift Police Action
Sunny reportedly believed the body would remain unidentified. However, within 24 hours, Agra police traced the victim’s identity and arrested Sunny while he was attempting to escape to Punjab. During initial questioning, he claimed that Sonali had died by suicide, but the post-mortem report confirmed death by strangulation, contradicting his statement.
