Useful News: Toll Plazas in Punjab to Remain Free for 5 Hours Today — Know the Reason Before You Travel

If you are planning to travel by road in Punjab today, this update is important for you. Toll plazas across the state will remain toll-free for five hours, from 11 am to 4 pm, due to a statewide protest announced by the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha.

The Morcha has called for demonstrations at all toll plazas in Punjab, demanding the release of Sikh prisoners. As part of the protest, supporters will allow vehicles to pass without paying toll during the five-hour window. Several farmers’ organisations have also extended their support to the agitation.

Responding to the Morcha’s appeal, Dilbag Singh, president of the Bharatiya Kisan Mazdoor Union, announced that the Ladowal toll plaza in Ludhiana and the Neelo toll plaza near Samrala will also remain free during this period. He said that members of his organisation, along with Morcha activists, will be present at toll plazas to ensure smooth passage for commuters.

Protest ongoing for years

The Qaumi Insaaf Morcha has been running a long-standing movement demanding justice related to the 2015 sacrilege incidents and the Behbal Kalan firing case. The group has maintained a permanent protest site in Mohali since January 2023 and has organised marches and demonstrations in Chandigarh and other parts of Punjab.
