TV actor Ashish Kapoor received relief on September 10 when Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court granted him bail in an alleged gangrape case. Kapoor, who was arrested in Pune, Maharashtra, had been in judicial custody since his arrest and police interrogation. Additional Sessions Judge Bhupinder Singh granted bail on a bond of Rs 1 lakh, noting that his custody was not required for further investigation.
Court’s observations
The court considered several factors while granting bail, including CCTV footage, records, and documents presented by the defense. Judge Bhupinder Singh noted that Kapoor’s history was clean and there was no reason to believe he would not cooperate with the investigation. Police had requested a five-day remand, of which four days were granted, but submitted most evidence within three days.
Defense arguments
Kapoor’s lawyer, Deepak Sharma, argued that the allegations against the actor were false and intended to extort money. He pointed out that the complainant had previously filed complaints, including one against her landlord earlier this year.
Case details
The case stems from a complaint by a woman who attended a party in Kapoor’s neighborhood. She alleged that she was given a drink that rendered her unconscious and was then gang-raped in a toilet. The FIR was registered on August 11, 2025, under sections related to rape, gangrape, and causing hurt. Kapoor was arrested from Pune on September 2.
