Hidden in Plain Sight: 7 Smartphone Tricks That Can Make Everyday Tasks Much Easier

Your smartphone can do far more than make calls, send messages and run social media apps. Modern devices come with a collection of small but powerful features that can save time in everyday situations.

Many of these tools are already built into your phone, meaning you may not need to install another application at all.

1. Pin Important Information to Your Clipboard

If you regularly type the same information—such as an address, email ID or frequently used phrase—your keyboard's clipboard feature can save time.

Instead of repeatedly typing the same text, you can copy it once and access it from the clipboard whenever needed. Some keyboards also allow frequently used items to be pinned.

2. Use Your Phone as a Level

Need to check whether a picture frame is straight or whether a surface is properly aligned?

Many smartphones can function as a digital level through built-in tools or utility features. It can be surprisingly useful for quick household jobs when you don't have a physical level nearby.

3. Take Screenshots of Long Pages

A normal screenshot captures only what's currently visible on the screen. However, many Android phones and some apps support scrolling screenshots.

This lets you capture an entire webpage, conversation or document in one image rather than taking several separate screenshots.

4. Turn on One-Handed Mode

Large smartphone displays are excellent for watching videos and browsing, but reaching the top corners with one hand can be uncomfortable.

One-handed mode moves or shrinks the usable screen area, making controls easier to reach. It's particularly useful when you're walking or carrying something with your other hand.

5. Use the Camera Flash as a Notification

Some phones can use the camera's LED flash to alert you when a notification or call arrives.

This can be useful when your phone is on silent or when you don't want to rely on sound. The exact option and location vary between devices.

6. Quickly Scan a QR Code

You don't always need a dedicated QR-scanner application.

Modern phone cameras can usually recognize QR codes directly. Point the camera at the code and wait for the notification or link to appear.

This is useful for restaurant menus, Wi-Fi credentials, payments and website links.

7. Search Settings Instead of Hunting Through Menus

Phone settings can contain hundreds of options, and finding a particular feature manually can be frustrating.

Instead of opening menus one by one, use the search bar inside the Settings application. Type what you're looking for—such as "battery," "hotspot," "notifications" or "screen timeout"—and your phone can often take you directly to the relevant setting.

Your Smartphone May Already Have the Feature You Need

The most useful technology isn't always something you need to download or purchase. Sometimes, it's a feature that's already sitting inside your phone waiting to be discovered.

Take a few minutes to explore your keyboard, camera, accessibility settings and system tools. You might find several features that make your daily smartphone use noticeably easier.
