Road transport and tolls are always in the news. Meanwhile, the issue of tolls and disputes has also come to the fore. Now, on the issue of tolls, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced a new scheme. Under this new system, vehicles will no longer need to stop at toll plazas.

Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said that toll plazas across the country could be eliminated by the end of 2026. They will be replaced by a new system in which vehicles can travel without stopping, and tolls will be charged based on the distance traveled. He gave this information at an event. He said that the new system will be based on number plate recognition technology and FASTag. Under this, vehicles will not have to stop at toll plazas. This system has already been implemented at 85 toll plazas, and there are plans to implement it across the country by the end of this year.

Toll costs will be saved

Nitin Gadkari stated that the new system will be based on number plate recognition technology and FASTag. This new system will significantly reduce travel costs. The current toll of ₹125-₹150 will be reduced to around ₹15. He also mentioned a ₹3,000 pass that will enable travel through 200 toll booths. Work is progressing rapidly on several highway corridors, including the Delhi-Jaipur, Delhi-Dehradun, Amritsar, Katra, and Srinagar.

Highway network will increase in Maharashtra

Nitin Gadkari reviewed the proposed new 'high-speed corridors', 'high-density corridors' and other important national highway projects in Maharashtra. According to an official statement, during the review meeting held in the national capital, the Union Minister discussed several important projects related to highway development. These include six-laning of the Nagpur-Bhandara section, four-laning of the Taloda-Burhanpur section, Durg-Gadchiroli-Mancherial corridor, Gadchiroli-Kanker (Raipur-Visakhapatnam) corridor, Gwalior-Nagpur corridor and Nagpur-Hyderabad corridor.
