The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts for several states across the country, predicting heavy rain, strong winds, thunderstorms, and lightning over the next few days. A red warning has been issued for the Birbhum, Murshidabad, West Bardhaman, and East Bardhaman districts of West Bengal. These areas are expected to experience strong winds with speeds up to 60 kmph and heavy rainfall.
Additionally, an orange alert has been issued for several districts in Assam, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh. These areas are expected to experience thunderstorms, with winds reaching 40 to 60 kmph, and moderate to heavy rainfall. The continuous rain has disrupted normal life in Gujarat, Kerala, and Assam. Although the intensity of the rain has decreased in some areas, the Meteorological Department has predicted continued rainfall.
The Meteorological Department has also issued a severe weather warning for several districts in Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir. These areas may experience rain and strong winds for the next few days.
According to the IMD, rainfall activity may decrease slightly over South India over the next two days, but heavy to very heavy rain is likely to continue over coastal and south interior Karnataka. Rainfall is likely to increase over Northeast India and the Himalayan foothills over the next four to five days.
The Meteorological Department stated that the depression over southwest Madhya Pradesh, eastern Rajasthan, and Gujarat has weakened into a low pressure area and is expected to weaken further over the next 24 hours. People have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during the inclement weather, avoid sheltering under trees and weak structures, and follow guidelines issued by local authorities.
