This Muslim actor ran away to Goa to get married — his wife is Hindu

The film industry has seen many love stories that crossed religious boundaries, and one such couple is actor Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and actress Rasika Agashe. Their journey to marriage wasn’t easy, as both families initially opposed their relationship due to religious differences. But determined to be together, the two secretly escaped to Goa, hiding from their families for four days before eventually returning and getting married with everyone’s blessings.

Zeeshan is Muslim, and Rasika is Hindu. The couple tied the knot 18 years ago under the Special Marriage Act, but getting to that point involved several challenges.

They fled to Goa to avoid family pressure

In an interview with The Sheroz TV, Zeeshan revealed,
“This wedding was tough because it was a Hindu–Muslim marriage. To avoid any interference, we ran off to Goa for four days and cut contact with both families. We enjoyed those four days.”

They stayed in Goa simply to get some peace and clarity about their relationship.

Returned and finally got married

After returning from Goa, something surprising happened — their families accepted the relationship.

Zeeshan shared,
“We came back in September and got married soon after. Thankfully, both sets of parents attended the wedding. The first couple of months were full of confusion because our families followed two different religions.”

The couple married in 2007 under the Special Marriage Act and are now proud parents of a daughter named Raha Khan.

No desire for religious pressure

Zeeshan further explained that both he and Rasika wanted a marriage free of religious control.

He said,
“We didn’t want religion to interfere in our relationship. If I want to remain Muslim, that’s my choice, and I will never force Rasika to follow Muslim traditions. If she wants to remain Hindu, that is completely her decision.”
