Sanjiv Goenka’s teams have had a forgettable year — after a disappointing run in the IPL 2025 with Lucknow Super Giants, his franchise in The Hundred was also struggling. But in the 30th match of the league, Manchester Originals finally registered a convincing victory, defeating Northern Superchargers (owned by Kavya Maran) by 7 wickets with 16 balls to spare.
The heroics came from Jos Buttler and Rachin Ravindra, who turned the game around with a fiery 99-run stand that lasted only 48 balls, smashing 19 boundaries and sixes between them.
Jos Buttler’s explosive fifty
Chasing a modest target of 140, Manchester got off to a shaky start, losing two wickets for just 31 runs. But Buttler took charge with a vintage power-hitting display. He smashed 70 runs off just 37 balls, hammering 7 fours and 5 sixes to dismantle the Superchargers’ bowling attack.
Rachin Ravindra, playing the perfect support role, stayed unbeaten on 47 off 23 balls, with 5 fours and 2 sixes. Together, they ensured Manchester crossed the line comfortably, finishing at 142/3 in 84 balls.
Jacob Duffy, Rashid Khan, and Tom Lodge picked one wicket each for Northern Superchargers.
Northern Superchargers’ collapse
Earlier, batting first, Northern Superchargers had a disastrous start, slipping to 73/5. A counterattack from David Miller (30 off 22, 3 sixes) and Samit Patel (42 off 19, 4 fours, 3 sixes) gave them some hope, with a 59-run partnership for the sixth wicket.
But apart from captain Harry Brook (20 off 20), no other batter contributed meaningfully. They ended with a below-par total of 139/8 in 100 balls.
For Manchester, Tom Aspinwall impressed with 3 wickets, while veterans James Anderson and Josh Tongue bagged two each.
Points table update
Despite the loss, Northern Superchargers remain strong at 3rd place with 5 wins from 8 matches. Manchester Originals, however, are still at 6th spot, but this win provides much-needed relief for owner Sanjiv Goenka after a difficult season across leagues.
