Tejashwi Yadav Wins Raghopur Seat, Defeats BJP’s Satish Kumar Rai by Over 13,000 Votes

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has secured a decisive victory from the Raghopur constituency, defeating BJP candidate Satish Kumar Rai by a significant margin. Throughout the counting, the lead kept shifting between the two candidates, but Tejashwi eventually took firm control and emerged victorious.

According to the Election Commission, Tejashwi received more than 1.1 lakh votes, winning by over 13,000 votes. His opponent Satish Kumar Rai managed 1,02,587 votes.

Raghopur has long been considered a stronghold of the Yadav family. Tejashwi, the Grand Alliance’s chief ministerial face, faced a strong challenge from Satish Kumar Rai. At around 4 p.m., after 20 rounds of counting, Tejashwi was leading by over 3,500 votes, and his lead eventually widened to over 11,000 votes. Interestingly, Satish held the lead until the 18th round, and at one point, the gap had shrunk to just over 9,000 votes.

The constituency has a strong Yadav presence and has historically backed the RJD. Lalu Prasad Yadav won the seat twice, in 1995 and 2000. Rabri Devi also won from Raghopur three times, including a by-election in 2000 and the 2005 assembly polls.

Satish Kumar Rai, meanwhile, has contested from Raghopur multiple times. In 2010, running on a JD(U) ticket, he defeated Rabri Devi by more than 13,000 votes, ending the family's long hold on the seat.

However, the seat returned to the RJD in 2015 when Tejashwi defeated Satish Kumar, who contested on a BJP ticket, by over 22,700 votes and went on to become Deputy Chief Minister. In the 2020 election, Tejashwi again defeated Satish, this time by over 38,000 votes.
