Customers planning to buy a new Tata car may have to increase their budget soon. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has announced a price hike across its passenger vehicle range, with prices set to increase by up to ₹25,000 from September 1, 2026.
The increase will apply across the company's portfolio, including both petrol and diesel cars as well as electric vehicles. However, the exact amount of the hike will vary depending on the model and variant.
Why Is Tata Motors Increasing Car Prices?
According to Tata Motors, rising input and commodity costs are putting pressure on the company's production expenses.
Persistent inflationary pressures, along with uncertainty in the global economic and geopolitical environment, have contributed to higher costs.
The company says it has been absorbing a significant portion of these additional expenses to reduce the impact on customers. However, with cost pressures continuing, some of the increase will now be passed on to buyers.
Tata Cars to Become Costlier for the Second Time This Year
This is not the first price increase announced by Tata Motors in 2026.
The company had earlier announced a 1.5 percent price hike across its internal-combustion engine and electric vehicle range. That increase came into effect from July 1.
With another hike scheduled for September, customers looking to buy a Tata car this year could end up paying considerably more than they would have earlier.
Other Carmakers Are Also Raising Prices
Tata Motors is not the only automaker facing rising cost pressures.
Hyundai Motor India has also announced a price increase of up to 1 percent across its portfolio from September 2026. The company has similarly pointed to higher input and commodity costs, along with continued economic and geopolitical uncertainty.
Such price revisions indicate that increasing production costs are putting pressure on carmakers across the Indian automobile industry.
Should You Buy a Tata Car Before September?
If you are already planning to purchase a Tata car or SUV, the upcoming price hike could be worth considering while finalising your purchase timeline.
Buying before September 1 could help you avoid the new price, subject to the applicable dealer price, booking terms and delivery conditions. However, the actual benefit will depend on the model and variant you choose.
Tata Motors is yet to reveal the exact revised prices for every model and variant. Customers should therefore check the final ex-showroom and on-road price with an authorised dealer before making a purchase.
With prices rising again, buyers planning to purchase a Tata car in the coming weeks may want to compare the current and revised prices before making their final decision.
