New Maruti Baleno Could Get 5 Major Upgrades: CNG-AMT, Ventilated Seats and More

Maruti Suzuki is reportedly preparing an updated version of its popular premium hatchback, the Baleno. Test vehicles and emerging reports suggest that the upcoming facelift could receive several important changes in terms of features, technology and styling.
The new Baleno is expected to arrive on September 5, and if the reported updates make it to the production model, the hatchback could become considerably more appealing to buyers. Here are five major upgrades that are expected to be part of the new Baleno.
1. CNG Could Finally Get an Automatic Gearbox
One of the biggest potential changes could be the introduction of an AMT gearbox with the CNG version.
Maruti Suzuki has a strong presence in the factory-fitted CNG segment, but its CNG models have traditionally been offered with manual transmissions. The new Baleno could change this by combining CNG with an AMT automatic gearbox.
The setup is expected to use a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. In CNG mode, the engine could produce around 77.5 PS of power and 98.5 Nm of torque.
If introduced, the CNG-AMT combination could appeal to buyers who want the fuel savings of CNG without having to operate a manual gearbox in heavy city traffic.
2. Ventilated Front Seats Could Make Their Debut
Another major upgrade could be ventilated front seats.
The current Baleno is already known for offering comfortable seats with good under-thigh support. Adding ventilation could make the cabin more comfortable, particularly during India's hot summer months.
This feature could also give the Baleno a more premium feel and help it compete with newer rivals offering increasingly sophisticated cabin equipment.
3. Larger 10.1-Inch Touchscreen
The current Baleno comes with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The facelift could reportedly receive a larger 10.1-inch display.
The new system is also expected to support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This would allow users to connect their smartphones without constantly plugging in a USB cable.
The larger screen could also give the dashboard a more modern appearance and bring the Baleno in line with Maruti's newer models.
4. Wireless Phone Charging
Wireless charging could be another addition to the new Baleno.
With a compatible smartphone, users could simply place their device on the charging pad instead of connecting a cable every time. Combined with wireless smartphone connectivity, this could make the centre console cleaner and more convenient.
5. Level 1 ADAS Could Improve Safety
One of the most significant expected upgrades could be the addition of Level 1 ADAS features.
Reports suggest that the Baleno could receive features such as Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Safe Exit Alert. These systems could provide additional assistance during lane changes, parking and when exiting the vehicle.
However, these advanced safety features could be restricted to higher-spec variants.
Exterior Design Could Also Get a Refresh
The changes may not be limited to the cabin and technology. The Baleno facelift is also expected to receive some styling updates.
The revised model could feature redesigned headlamps, an updated grille and a new chrome element across the front. New alloy wheel designs and a revised rear bumper are also expected.
The overall silhouette of the hatchback is likely to remain familiar, while the rear could retain a similar taillamp design.
A More Feature-Rich Baleno Could Be on the Way
If the reported upgrades make it to the production version, the new Baleno could offer a stronger combination of convenience, technology, safety and fuel efficiency.
The potential CNG-AMT option could be particularly important for city buyers, while features such as ventilated seats, wireless charging and ADAS could make the higher variants more attractive.
However, these specifications and features are based on reports and expectations. Maruti Suzuki's official announcement will confirm which features and powertrain combinations actually make it to the final production model.
