Authorities in Pahalgam have introduced a QR code-based identification system to strengthen tourist safety ahead of the first anniversary of the 2025 terror attack. This new system allows visitors to verify the identity of service providers instantly, ensuring a safer and more transparent environment.
Under this initiative, all tourist service providers—including pony ride operators, hawkers, shopkeepers, and outside vendors—have been registered and thoroughly verified by the police. Each individual has been issued a unique QR code that contains their personal details and credentials.
Tourists can simply scan this QR code using their mobile phones to access complete information about the service provider. This makes it easier to confirm whether a person is authorized and genuinely registered, reducing the chances of fraud or impersonation. The system is designed to ensure that only verified individuals are allowed to operate in tourist areas.
This move comes in response to the tragic Pahalgam attack April 2025, which claimed 26 lives and raised serious concerns about safety in the region. By introducing this ‘smart security’ mechanism, authorities aim to restore confidence among tourists and prevent any potential threats.
Overall, the QR-based system acts as a digital safety check, allowing visitors to make informed decisions and helping authorities maintain tighter control over security at one of Kashmir’s most popular tourist destinations.
