In a startling discovery from Nampally, Hyderabad, police have uncovered a skeleton believed to be that of a man who died a decade ago. The case, which came to light after a local accidentally recorded a video while retrieving a ball, has shocked the neighborhood and raised questions about how someone could vanish unnoticed for so long.
How the Discovery Was Made
The skeleton was found inside an abandoned house owned by Munir Khan, where one of his sons, Amir Khan, used to live alone. On Monday, a young resident entered the seemingly deserted property and captured a video, in which a skeleton was spotted lying face-down, near what appeared to be a kitchen area, surrounded by old utensils.
The Key Clue: An Old Nokia Phone
The breakthrough in identifying the remains came from an old Nokia mobile phone found near the skeleton. Though the phone's battery was initially dead, police managed to revive it. Once operational, the call logs revealed 84 missed calls, all from 2015, offering a strong lead that the person had died around that time.
What Police Found
-
Human skeleton in a decomposed state
-
An old Nokia mobile phone
-
Old currency notes recovered from under a pillow
-
Clothing and a ring, later identified by the deceased's younger brother
-
No signs of struggle or foul play, according to initial examination
Identity Confirmed
Assistant Commissioner of Police Kishan Kumar stated that the skeleton was confirmed to be Amir Khan, a 50-year-old man who was unmarried and may have suffered from mental health issues. He had been living alone in the house and had little to no contact with the outside world.
The presence of demonetised notes (which were banned during the 2016 demonetisation) under his pillow further confirmed that his death occurred before 2016. His younger brother, Shadab, identified the ring and shorts found with the remains.
No Evidence of Crime
Police noted that the lack of any signs of forced entry, struggle, or injury suggests a natural or undetected death. The body likely decomposed over the years, with no one noticing due to Amir's isolated lifestyle.
Investigation and Next Steps
A forensic team from the Clues Department visited the site and collected samples for further analysis. The skeletal remains have been sent to the mortuary for examination. Police will continue their inquiry to rule out any other possibilities, though foul play is currently not suspected.
This chilling case serves as a reminder of how isolation and mental health issues can sometimes result in tragic, unnoticed endings—even in the heart of a bustling city.
