As the holy month of Sawan begins from July 11, Kanwar Yatra activities across Uttar Pradesh are gaining momentum. To ensure smooth traffic flow and maintain law and order, the District Magistrate (DM) of Budaun has issued an official directive for the closure of schools on specific dates during this period.
Which Schools Will Remain Closed and When?
In view of the heavy movement of Kanwariyas (devotees of Lord Shiva) and possible traffic congestion, schools in Budaun will remain shut for certain days. Here's the official school holiday schedule for Classes 6 to 12:
-
July: 12 (Sat), 14 (Mon), 19–21 (Fri–Sun), 26–28 (Sat–Mon)
-
August: 2–4 (Sat–Mon)
The order applies to all educational boards operating in the district.
In Varanasi, all schools (across boards) have also been instructed to remain closed on July 14.
Teachers and Staff to Report for Duty
Despite class suspensions, teaching and non-teaching staff will still be required to report to school. They are expected to assist with any official government work or activities as assigned.
If schools have any scheduled exams or events, those will be rescheduled, as per the DM's instructions.
The District Basic Education Officer Virendra Kumar Singh added that from Classes 1 to 8, all schools (government-run, aided, and private) across the district will observe holidays every Saturday and Monday during the month of Sawan.
Security & Traffic Management for Kanwar Yatra
According to SP City Vijayendra Dwivedi, massive preparations have been made for the Kanwar Yatra route covering 146 km in Budaun:
-
366 CCTV cameras installed across the route
-
35 religious sites under police surveillance
-
5 control rooms and 5 watch towers established
-
Route divided into 6 zones and 32 sectors
-
Deployment of special volunteers called ‘Kanwar Rakshaks’ to monitor mischief-makers
Traffic Diversion Plan
Due to the Yatra, traffic has been rerouted:
-
From Friday 8 PM to Monday 5 PM, the Bareilly-Mathura Highway has been converted into one-way.
-
All entry points are barricaded with bamboo fences.
-
Separate alternate routes have been allocated for heavy and light vehicles to ensure smooth transit.
As Kanwar Yatra gathers pace in Sawan 2025, school closures, traffic diversions, and tight security arrangements are being implemented to maintain public safety and religious harmony. Parents and students in affected districts should stay updated via official notifications and plan accordingly.
